Tere kallid jälgijad ja nälgijad! Oleme siin lehel pidanud nüüd pikka pausi ja hoidnud viisakat jõuluvaikust, et teil ka jõulurahu oleks! Viimaks oleme aga aru saanud, et jõulutunne läks juba enne jõululaupäeva üle ja ei viitsi seda pühalikku vaikust siin enam pikalt hoida.

Sissejuhatuseks väike seletus, kuidas saatus meid Riiga viis - see ei olnud üldse juhuslik sihtpunkt.
Kevadel panime üles postituse airBalticu värskest pardamenüüst, mida Tallinnas väiksele seltskonnale tutvustamas käidi. Ootamatult saime meiegi sellele üritusele kutse ning saabusime sinna kerge segaduse, kuid mõnusa elevusega. Tol üritusel jäime silma Riiast saabunud airBalticu ettevõttesuhete asepresidendile ja LSG Sky Chefs kokkadele oma meeletu õhina ja lõppematu küsimustevooga, mis algul kohati ehmatav võis tunduda. Saime tänu oma siirale uudishimule nendega väga hästi läbi - lausa nii lõbus oli, et ürituse lõpuks kutsuti Näljane Nelik Riiga, pardatoidu tootmise telgitaguseid uudistama! Panime mõtteliselt oma elujoonele märgi kirja sellise saavutuse pärast.
Niisiis lendasime suuuure elevusega neljakesi sügisel Riiga. Esimeses klassis, nagu me kõik umbes 15 aastat tagasi suure elevusega koolipinki istusime, käes ruuduline kohver ja esimene Aabits. 2016. aastal jäi kohver endiselt mängu, kuid Aabitsa vahetas välja luksuslik airBalticu pardamenüü. Milline vastuvõtt ja milline imeliselt korraldatud reis!

As an introduction we’ll give you a short explanation of how faith took us to Riga - this was not a random destination.
In Spring we put up a post on airBaltic’s fresh on-board menu, which was introduced to a small group of people in Tallinn. Unexpectedly, we also received an invitation to that event, where we arrived in mild confusion, but pleasant sense of excitement. With our great enthusiasm and endless line of questions we caught the eye of airBaltic’s Vice President of Corporate Communications and LSG Sky Chefs. Thanks to our sincere curiosity we got on very well with these wonderful people, in fact it was so fun, that by the end of the event we received an invitation to Riga to see the production part of airBaltic’s on-board menu! We added an imaginary checkmark on that day in our minds after that kind of achievement.
So in this November the four of us flew to Riga for an amazing trip! What a warm welcome and amazingly organised trip- we were surprised!

Otse lennukilt viidigi meid LSG Sky Chefs pardatoidu tootmishoonesse, sest üllatus-üllatus, pardatoit valmib praktiliselt lennujaamas. Läbisime arvukalt uhkeid kontrolle kaelakaartidega ja kaelakaartideta, allkirjadega ja allkirjadeta, ent alati naerusuiselt.

Straight from the airport, we were taken to the LSG Sky Chefs food production facility, because surprise-surprise, airplane food is produced practically at the airport. After undergoing numerous fancy inspections with neck charts and signatures we entered the LSG building.

Airplane food - It sounds like an insult word right? Something like this might come to mind:
A beautiful, tall stewardess with that small hat and gray trolley approaches you and asks:
“Chicken or fish for You?”
And you think in your head:
“Does it really matter? I mean, everything under that hot plastic foil will taste the same anyway. And I certainly don’t feel like having those horrendous jaggedly chopped vegetables in tomato sauce that accompany every in-flight dish.”

AGA TEATE MIS, SEE AEG ON MINEVIK!
Meie siis maskeerusime LSG kokatädideks, desinfitseerisime end mitut pidi ning seadsime sammud rangelt puhta LSG köögi poole. Kõigepealt torkas pähe mõte, et kõik LÕHNAB tohutult värskelt. Järgmiseks silmasime laual mõnusalt täidetud kuldseid croissante ning nende kõrval kaaviari, lõhe ja salatilehti. Ehhh pardatoit... aee, kus sa oled?

BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? THESE DAYS ARE BEHIND US!
We disguised ourselves into LSG chefs, disinfected us in every possible way and went into the strictly clean LSG kitchen. Our first initial thought was that everything smells so good and fresh! Then a pile of beautifully golden croissants caught our eyes and next to it we saw caviar, salmon and salad leaves. Are we really in an airline catering kitchen? Are these really airline meals?

Ei saa ka mainimata jätta, et olime väga üllatunud kui pisike see koht oli. Eeldasime, et saabume mingisse hiigelsuurde tööstushoonesse, kus karbihunnikud küündivad taevani ja töö toimub masinatega, kuid ohh ei. Oleks nagu kellegi koju saabunud. Kui eelnevalt mainisime, et LSG Group on väga suur firma, siis loomulikult on see üle maailma väiksemateks kontsernideks jaotunud. Tootmishoone, mida meile näidati, on spetsiaalselt airBalticu pardatoidu valmistamiseks - võrdlemisi pisike, arvestades ettevõtte suurust. Igal hommikul tuuakse uus laadung värskeid juurvilju, mis kõik päeva jooksul “lendu” läheb. Ka koogid küpsetatakse kohapeal- seal ruumis lõhnas ikka eriti hästi.

We cannot leave unmentioned, that we were very surprised how small this place was. We expected to arrive to a huge industrial building, where piles of boxes reach the sky and all of the products are made by machine, but far from it. We felt like we went to somebody’s home. As we mentioned before, LSG Group is a huge company, but it is divided into smaller corporate groups. The production building, which was showed to us, was only for the airBaltic airline meals and was a lot smaller than we imagined, taking into consideration the size of airBaltic itself. Every morning there is brought in a fresh batch of fruit and vegetables, which all goes “up into the sky” by the end of the day. Even the cakes are made on the spot- that room smelled especially good.

Terves hoones on kasutusel ääretult ranged puhtuse tingimused. Saime teada, et pardatoidu valmistamiseks kasutatakse samu tingimusi, mis astronautide toidu valmistamiseks kehtivad. Temperatuur on igas ruumis kindlalt sätestatud ning töötajad läbivad hommikuti tööle tulles süsteemi, mis kindlustab, et keegi hoonesse haigusi ei tooks. Kui hoonesse tuuakse värsket toidumaterjali, siis on punaste joontega märgitud piirid, mida kuller kindlasti ületada ei tohi, sest temagi kujutab endast töötamiskeskkonna jaoks nn “võõrkeha”.

There are particularly strict cleanliness conditions and rules in the building. Fun fact - we found out that airline meals have to have the same conditions of production as astronauts’ meals. The temperature is strictly set and different in every room and the workers have to fill in a form to insure the healthiness every day. If new produce is brought in, then the deliverer cannot step further than the red line on the floor, making sure that he does not bring any diseases or bacteria to the workplace either.

Tuuri lõpuks istutati meid maha nagu koolipinki ning pakuti üks terviklik airBalticu toidukandik. Kusjuures, see tuleb igal turistiklassis reisijal enne lendu endal kokku panna ja ette tellida. Vastasel juhul on võimalik osta lennukist võileiba ja krõpsu ja muud jama. Tellides on aga võimalik valida rohkem kui 70 valiku vahel (hommiku-ja lõunasöökide, liha-ja taimetoitude, magustoitude ja snäkkide vahel). Võimalik on isegi sõbrale kook ja šampus lennukisse tellida ;). See on eriti armas viis kedagi üllatada.

At the end of the tour, we were sat down into a “school desk” and served with a wholesome airBaltic airplane meal.
These meals can and should be ordered ahead of the trip for economy class. There are over 70 options to choose from (breakfast, lunch, dinner, vegan, vegetarian whatever pretty much your heart desires). You can even order a cake and sparkling wine for your friend to the airplane ;). It is a super sweet option for example if he/she has a birthday or just to surprise her/him.

In conclusion, the tour was very mind broadening and informative. However, if you are asking for more pictures, then we weren't allowed to take many for safety reasons and this post is getting extremely long.
We just wanted to share a little part of this amazing opportunity that we had!
